We also allow storage on wheels if set pieces are going into our workshop. We have the ability to do cross-loads for international transfers and can also to do practice truck packs before the first get out.
Workshop & fabrication
What we build at the Hub
At Datum Hub, we handle the practical builds that keep productions moving from alterations, repairs and refurbishments to bespoke fabrication for touring and long running shows. We don’t take on new build scenic design, instead we focus on keeping existing productions working, looking in good condition and adapting to whatever their next stage needs. Whether it’s altering a touring set into a West End install (or vice versa), making show specific alterations, or building essentials like boxes, drum booths and rehearsal sets, everything is built in house at the Hub.
Workshop projects
Just a few examples from our workshop
The Pickled Crab
The Pickled Crab is a custom-built bar created for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The whole project was built at Datum Hub and installed at the Ambassadors Theatre, London. A fully functioning outdoor style pub structure (delivered ahead of schedule and below budget too!).
To Kill a Mockingbird
For the West End production of To Kill a Mockingbird, Datum delivered a full forestage build, new masking flattage, and a complete truck rebuild and refurbishment. We also repacked and reorganised the trailers, transitioning the production from a touring format to a fixed West End installation, made possible by having every stage of the process handled in one place at Datum Hub.

Green policy
Aligned with the Theatre Green Book
Datum is committed to sustainable practice, guided by the principles of the Theatre Green Book. We recognise the environmental impact of all materials, whether offcuts, timber, steel or sheet goods and work to minimise waste at every stage of production, reusing and responsible recycling are prioritised to avoid landfill. We source from suppliers who share our environmental values, maintaining close relationships with merchants who operate responsibly.
Our 4.9-acre site reflects these values, landscaped with trees, wildflowers, and lawns to create a pleasant and eco-conscious workplace. The local council supports our ongoing nature preservation efforts, recognising our commitment to a greener industry.
