What does a production carpenter do?
A production carpenter builds, installs and maintains the physical elements of a show, ensuring scenery, structures and mechanical components work safely and consistently in every venue.
Do you design new sets, and what can you build at Datum Hub?
We don’t design new scenic builds. Instead, we specialise in keeping existing productions running doing alterations, repairs, refurbishments and bespoke fabrication. At Datum Hub we regularly make show‑specific adjustments, touring boxes, drum booths, rehearsal sets and other practical items that support touring and long‑running shows.
Do you travel with productions?
Our production carpenters support every load‑in and load‑out on tour, providing continuity across the entire run.
Can you help adapt a show from tour to West End (or vice versa)?
Absolutely. We frequently convert touring productions for West End installs and support the reverse, making the structural and practical adjustments needed to keep the show working as intended.
How far in advance should we book production carpentry support?
The earlier the better, particularly for touring productions or transfers. But we’re also used to fast turnarounds and will do our best to help short notice.
